Jesus Love

How to Know, Accept, and Love Jesus

Are you about to give up? Do you think some days you are better off dead? Is life feeling too hard? Do you want more peace, joy, positivity, and love in your life?

If you said “yes” to any of these, please keep reading!

Keep reading to learn how much you are loved by Jesus. He is waiting to pour out His love and grace upon you!

Maybe you are hurting or grieving a relationship. Perhaps you’re sabotaging your life out of fear. Maybe you have made some bad choices and have no idea how to get out of them. Or perhaps you continuously come back to the relentless question of “What’s the point?” Maybe you think your future is entirely up to you, and therefore you are consumed with worry, what if, or catastrophizing thoughts! Regardless of what it is or how big it may feel, Jesus can handle it! I promise you Jesus is the answer! I know … I know, insert eye roll, but it’s true!

Here’s the best part of this, it’s up to YOU and your free will if you will have a relationship with Him or not. Jesus has already made up His mind. He wants a relationship with you more than you can imagine. Jesus wants to put His yoke upon your neck and help you have a more abundant life. The Father wants to love on you! It’s okay if you are afraid. He can handle that too.

On Your Mark, Get set, Go… Love Jesus

Jesus wants to help you in everything. Maybe you think He won’t care about that silly little incident at work today or what you should eat for dinner but know Jesus cares because you care! He wants you to know Him and know how good, loving, and comforting He is. When you accept Jesus, you instantly get a Father, provider, comforter, advocate, and SO MUCH MORE. I know trusting a stranger can be challenging, but know Jesus only wants amazing things for your future too.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).

Accepting Jesus

All you have to do is accept and believe Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. When you do this in your heart and believe it, your life will begin to change. It’s that simple!

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved (Romans 10:9 NIV).

Plus, you enter a new family, the body of Christ. That means every Christian is your brother or sister. How cool is that? You immediately get a huge family, regardless if you have one or not. Jesus’ blood is thicker than any liquid! His blood is so special – He used it to cover your sins! Another perk to being a disciple of Christ is that you get to spend eternity in Heaven instead of Hell. Can we say winning?

Therefore, since we have now been justified [declared free of the guilt of sin] by His blood, [how much more certain is it that] we will be saved from the wrath of God through Him (Romans 5:9 AMP).

Yes, hell is real. It doesn’t matter if you believe in it or not. We live in a spiritual world. Simply because you don’t see something doesn’t make it not real. For instance, you cannot see television signals or even brain waves, but they are there.

By the way, accepting and believing in Jesus as your Lord and Savior will be the best decision you ever make. There are very few things we at Renew Ministries can promise you, but that is the top one!

Not sure how to do that? No worries. All you have to do is pray the following out loud:

Jesus, please forgive me for the mistakes I have made. Thank you for not giving up on me. I am learning how much I need You in my life. Today I give my life to You. Help me to surrender my life to You in everything, even when I am scared. I need and want You as my Lord and Savior. I welcome You into my heart. I no longer want to do things my way. Please enlighten my eyes of understanding to see, know, and do Your ways in everything. I believe You died on the cross for my sins, and You rose from the dead. Show me how to live for You, and only You. Thank You for Your unconditional love, forgiveness, grace, and mercy. Help me to reflect Your light in all that I do. In Jesus’ name Amen.

Now, just like you put work and effort into your human friendships, you will need to do the same with Christ. Start attending a Bible-based Church or fellowship group and pray. Pray as often as you can remember. Don’t worry about being right. Talk to Jesus like you would a friend.

You will want to read your Bible so that you can learn and understand more about Jesus. We at Renew Ministries encourage you to start with the YouVersion Bible App. They have some excellent devotionals.

Praying, Bible reading, devotionals, and church-going may feel overwhelming, but take a deep sigh of relief. You don’t have to do all of this at once. Start slow. Be consistent. Remember, Jesus is guiding you. He knows the best way for you to start. You are just going to have to ask Him. He will give you an answer, and it might take time for you to recognize His voice, which is why it can help you to join a Christian community. Find an older Christian to walk with you. As believers we are called to do this!

Renew Ministries’ head pastor, Elizabeth L. Creecy first started listening to K-Love, a Christian radio station. You could start there too. Jesus did all the work for her. All she did was listen to His instruction. Obedience is part of this walk. Everything God asks you to do is going to be for your benefit. Only the Devil wants to destroy you. God wants to refine you and create a perfect heart inside you!

The Hope of Christ

Every human being, but one, who has ever existed, has sinned and made mistakes (Romans 3:23). The only person who ever lived a perfect life on earth was Jesus Christ, and He sacrificed His life for all who believe in Him.

Mistakes are what the Bible calls “sin,” and even one sin can block a relationship with God. All sin leads to death too. That is why God, our Heavenly Father, sent Jesus for His blood to cover our mistakes and allow us to have a relationship with Him. Jesus connects us to the Father in Heaven.

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23 NIV).

The best part of all of this is the good news, or what the Bible calls “the Gospel.” It’s through Jesus you have HOPE! Jesus is overflowing with joy to embrace you in His arms. All you have to do is turn away from those mistakes or sins and go towards Jesus. In the Bible, turning away from your sins is called “repentance.” He will forgive you immediately! BAM, just like that it will be water under the bridge.

What happens when you repent, turn away from your mistakes or sins? Well, you are giving Jesus all of your pain, oppression, fear, troubles, and brokenness in exchange for Jesus to provide you with everything He has for you! Talk about a deal of a lifetime!

What does that entail? You will get all of His righteousness, which means “right standing with God.” The opposite of this would be self-righteousness, which is “right standing with yourself.” You will also receive abundance (John 10:10), peace (Philippians 4:7), healing (1 Peter 2:24), the mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16), and so much more. Ultimately you get a fresh start.

You are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

(Psalm 139:14 NIV)

God’s character is in the creation of every person. If you feel worthless or like you are not good enough, remember that God’s spirit is ready and hungry to work within you. God created you for a reason. He wants to tell you that reason too! You were designed in His image. He knows everything you have done and every thought you have, and He still loves you and wants a relationship with you. No matter what you have done, nothing can keep God from you but you! God loves you so much that He will respect your free will. He loves you so much He sacrificed His only Son for you to have life and eternity. The Father loves you so much. His love will satisfy you in every way!

Baby Steps…

Jesus was God’s perfect Son. Jesus was also God in the flesh. He chose to take on all the sin in the world and die for us. For you! He died for you because of how much He loved you! For you to have victory and live in eternity with Jesus and the Father. When God raised Jesus up from the dead, Jesus became the only path to being saved.

Getting to know Jesus is like how you got to know all your best friends. It takes time, effort, and energy. The first part of getting to know Jesus is recognizing how much you need Him. We all need Him, but not all will accept Him.  It’s wanting a relationship with Him and His help in your life. It’s believing He died and was resurrected for you. Invite Jesus to be a part of every aspect of your life. He will pull more than His fair share of the weight.

“I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through me.”

 — John 14:6 (NIV)

How Elizabeth Began Walking with the Lord

It wasn’t until 2012 when I decided I need to make a drastic life change! I was unhappy. I was angry at my nuclear family and the world. I was lonely. I hated myself. I was oppressed by my abusive past. Some days I just wanted to die. I was lost, hurting, and afraid of my future, present, and past. Perhaps you can relate to these same thoughts.

I was “raised” Methodist, but I didn’t know the Lord, and I hated going to church. However, at a very young age, I observed those who had a strong relationship with the Lord generally seemed to be happier individuals. They naturally seemed to have more peace, positivity, and overall joy. There was always something about those strong Christians and how they chose to live their life that enticed me, plus I wanted the fruit they had in their lives. The issue was, I had no idea how to cultivate it in my life. Human relationships were incredibly hard for me back then. I couldn’t even understand how to create a relationship with a regular person let alone Jesus. Good thing the Lord showed me. All I had to do was call upon Him and ask for His help, and then be obedient to what He said. That is precisely what I did.

One day, after taking note of the years of data points I noticed from Christians, I prayed to God. I told Him I had tried it my way, and it’s gotten me nowhere. I hated what I was sowing in my life. The fruit tasted awful, and I wanted more out of my life. I told God I wanted to do it His way. I figured what did I have to lose, my life couldn’t get any worse, and I liked what strong Christians had -peace, security, and love. I told God I would give Him a year of my life, and if nothing changed, I was out. Well, it changed alright! Never did I think I would be hungry for teaching the Word of God, let alone have a Ministry. You really cannot imagine the plans the Father has for you, but they are more satisfying and excellent than the plans you have for your life.

Jesus started me off slow. First, I began listening to Christian radio. The more I began enjoying listening to positive music, the less I liked listening to Country, my preferred channel at the time. Then I started listening to famous preachers’ podcasts while I worked out. Next, I began reading the Bible by doing devotions and reading Christian nonfiction books. Little by little, God got me to where I am now. Nowadays, I find reading commentaries of the Bible to be so much fun, but that would have overwhelmed me back then. Part of accepting Jesus into your heart means learning how to trust Him, but He will never ask you to do something you will not be successful at or that will hurt you – I promise. Now there are two promises just from this one page. 1. Believing in Jesus is the best decision of your life, and 2. God will never ask you to do something you cannot do or something that will hurt you! God is in the life-giving business!

I share this backstory to emphasize that I did not come from a Jesus-loving home. I haven’t known Jesus the way I do now my entire life. I hope this insight provides insight into the truth you can create a strong relationship with Christ at any age. If I can do it and my life is 1000 times better, then yours will be too!  You have to be willing to have a relationship with Jesus, and I promise you it will be the best decision of your life.
